Wow! We love your hair! With your fine and straight hair, you can assume that you have hair type 1A. Your hair is soft and shiny, but also gets greasy a little faster. Your hair has a hard time holding curls and is harder to style.
Wow! We love your hair!
With hair type 1B, your hair has an average thickness and density, which makes it likely that the ends are slightly bent. The great thing about your hair type is that the oil in your hair easily travels from the hair follicle to the tip of your hair. As a result, your hair strands embrace a natural shine and become greasy less quickly compared to other hair types!
Wow! We love your hair!
Hair type 1C has a high density and thickness and feels a bit heavier. Because of that thickness, your hair is often a bit more difficult to treat. Your hair can perfectly withstand heavy oils and butters, which will quickly make small frizzy hairs disappear. We have listed all our tips here!
Wow! We love your hair!
Hair type 2A can be recognized by some beautiful, wavy locks. You may notice that your locks are a bit straighter at the crown and more wavy at the bottom of your hair. The best thing about your hair is that your hair is actually quite low maintenance. Your hair is naturally messy to perfection! Lucky you!
Wow! We love your hair!
Hair type 2B is clearly recognizable by beautiful, wavy locks. Your hair has a medium thickness and can be quite frizzy at the crown. You don't really have a strong curl pattern, but you can't really call your hair straight either. And you can be proud of that! Your natural waves are something that people with straight hair can only achieve after a long session with the curling iron! Lucky you!
Wow! We love your hair!
What a beautiful, full head of hair you have! Hair type 2C can be clearly recognized by full, wavy locks. 2C hair balances between waves and curls and is sometimes a bit more difficult to pin down. Your hair is thick and wavy at the roots and is very defined. You probably suffer from frizz just as much as most people with curls. No worries… We've got you!
Wow! We love your hair!
With hair type 3A, you have the first type of curly hair. It is characterized by loose, well-defined and springy curls. The curls have a clear S-shape. Your hair type can have the tendency to become a bit frizzy or frizzy. Therefore, use enough moisture for your curls and treat them with love.
Wow! We love your hair!
Type 3B curls are spiral-shaped and are about the width of a pin. Some curls may be a bit bigger than others, but your hair is generally medium-fine in texture and has a lot of body and movement. In terms of curl definition, 3B curls are quite bouncy. Whether your hair is soaking wet in the shower or soaked in moisturizer, it will always hold its spirals. A plus of this curly hair type is that it has a lot of volume!
Wow! We love your hair!
Hair type 3C is clearly recognizable by spiral-shaped small (frizzy) curls. This type of hair is similar to type 3B, but consists of curls that are slightly frizzier, or very tightly curled. This hair type is really recognizable by the fact that the curls are very dense and can achieve a lot of volume. In addition, it is also the hair type that shrinks the most. (shrinkage). Hot styling tools can permanently change the shape of this hair. So be careful! These curls therefore benefit more from good care than from excessive styling.
Wow! We love your hair!
Type 4A hair is recognizable by medium-sized, loosely packed curls. The curls have a springy S-shape and are about the size of a crochet hook. If you look closely, you will notice that each hair strand curls independently of other adjacent strands. Although people with hair type 4A do not lack volume, the hair is often thin and brittle. This means that your hair needs the right care and we are happy to help you with that!
Wow! We love your hair!
If you have type 4B hair, you have tightly packed curls. They bend in a way that creates a zigzag pattern. If you take a strand of hair and gently pull it down, you will see that it forms tight “Z” curls vertically. The unique pattern makes your hair appear slightly less curly and slightly more curvy. Some people even point out that you may not have a super defined curl pattern, but rather strands that are soft and fluffy. It is important that you know how to care for your beautiful mane. And we're here to help!
Wow! We love your hair!
Your hair type is very similar to the woven and compact structure of hair type 4B, only it has less definition and more shrinkage. Up to 75 percent! The hairs are very close together and are intertwined. Even if there is a curl, it is often not visible. This hair type is extremely vulnerable and can get tangled very easily. That is why it is important that you take good care of your hair. No worries, we've got you!
Your hair porosity is low , which means that your hair cuticles are close together. Your hair is not thirsty and can retain moisture very well. Use hair products with little or no protein. Hair with low porosity often needs more products that focus on adding hydration. Always use a deep conditioner after cleansing your hair to hydrate it. And cover with a shower cap or hair dryer. Use a conditioner that focuses on maintaining the moisture balance of your hair. Finally, use products on wet hair instead of dry hair, so that it stays well hydrated. The heat opens the hair cuticles a little more, allowing your hair to absorb a product better.
Hair with an average porosity often requires the least attention. The cuticle layer is looser, which allows just the right amount of moisture to flow in and out of your hair. Care products will therefore be absorbed well. But be careful: frequent use of heat and chemical treatments can still make your hair porous!
Your hair porosity is high , which means that your hair is very thirsty and absorbs moisture very quickly. But not for long. Because porous hair is often damaged, your hair cuticles remain open and your hair is unable to stay hydrated for long. Result: dry locks. Try to avoid the heat of the blow dryer, straightener and curling iron as much as possible and rinse your hair with cold water after washing. This way you help the hair cuticles to close again and retain moisture better. After washing, use a good mask and a little bit of leave-in cream. This is a real must when it comes to caring for porous hair! It ensures that your hair gets a protective layer after washing that helps to retain moisture.
For your dry scalp, a nourishing oil can be the solution. It is important to choose the right oils. Preferably choose products with coconut oil, jojoba, aloe vera, argan oil or almond oil. Give yourself a head massage while applying, your hair will love it! And you too!
For your balanced scalp , a nourishing skin oil can be the solution. It is important to choose the right oils. Preferably choose products with coconut oil, jojoba, aloe vera, argan oil or almond oil. Give yourself a head massage while applying, your hair will love it! And so will you!
For your oily scalp, it is smart not to touch your hair too much. Don't wash it often and use as little shampoo as possible. Try to put your hair up temporarily and don't use unnecessary styling products. Often they are also greasy, which your scalp does not need at all. Also try to change your pillowcase a little more often. I know... It sounds like a lot now, but you will soon notice a difference!
- Do not use heavy products on your hair such as butters or heavy oils.
- Don't wash your hair too often. By washing, you remove essential oils for healthy and shiny hair. This causes your scalp to try to compensate, which only makes your hair greasier.
- Stop using harsh shampoos and conditioners and try swapping them for a low-poo shampoo. Always choose products without sulfates, parabens and silicones.
- Many people with straight hair avoid conditioners because they think it makes their hair weaker. However, this is not such a good idea in the long run. By closing your hair cuticles with conditioner after washing, your hair retains moisture better and is less vulnerable during the day. If you don't like conditioners that much, try rinsing your hair with cold water and a little apple cider vinegar!
- Stick to a regular hair care regimen. With your hair type, it’s best to wash your hair no more than two to three times a week. If you wash it too often, you run the risk of increasing oil production, which is something you definitely want to avoid!
- Don’t apply conditioner to your scalp! Since your locks can naturally be limp and lifeless, it’s best to avoid this! Apply conditioner only to the ends and bottom of your hair.
- Use a purifying detox shampoo once a week. Using this will help calm the oil production in your hair, leaving your scalp free of excess sebum!
- Try a hair rinse. Do you notice that the right products still don't clean your hair enough? Then a rinse that contains apple cider vinegar, aloe vera or rosemary oil could be the solution for your hair! Be careful not to do this too often. Every other week is enough.
- Hydrate your hair. You may think that because your hair can be oily, you don’t need to hydrate it. This is completely wrong. Hydration is exactly what your hair needs. Try a leave-in conditioner or a mask that isn’t too heavy.
- Use a smoothing serum
Works great to control your frizzy hair. Look for a serum that is gentle and natural.
- Use a cool setting on your hairdryer. Your hair is probably already stiff, dry and frizzy. So avoid excessive damage.
- Use a moisturizing shampoo and avoid products that add volume to your hair.
- Don't go to bed with wet hair. This can cause extra frizz.
- Use a microfiber towel. We’re all guilty of it: drying our hair with the same towel we use to dry our bodies. Unfortunately, that towel causes friction and breakage in your hair, leading to frizz and dryness. So invest in a microfiber towel. It’s made of a softer fabric that’s specifically designed to dry your hair with less damage.
- Let your hair dry naturally. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to let their locks air dry. So do this as often as possible. When you add heat to your hair, there is a chance that it will cause unwanted frizz in your hair!
- Avoid using too much product. This will only weigh your locks down and make them look lifeless. So make sure you use the right amount!
- Opt for lightweight hair products like foams, mousses and serums instead of oil or cream based products that can weigh down your wavy locks.
- However, you can occasionally opt for an oil to improve your hair texture. Then choose coconut oil, jojoba oil and argan oil. These are best for wavy hair. But be careful. Do not do this too often, because it can weigh your hair down. If you do opt for oil, do this an hour or two before you wash your hair with shampoo. This will prevent it from looking greasy, hydrate your hair and prevent shampoo from drying it out.
- Keep dry shampoo handy. Wavy hair gets oily at the roots and needs regular hair cleansing. Shampoos can dry out and damage your hair, so use a dry shampoo instead. It reduces excess sebum and adds texture to your hair!
- Don’t shampoo too much or too often. For many people with type 2B hair, the best waves appear on the first day after washing. On the second and third day, your hair will become a little frizzier, drier at the ends and greasier at the roots. Consider a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to provide your hair with enough moisture or use a mild shampoo to help preserve the natural oils in your hair.
- Use a wide-tooth comb. Brushing wet, wavy hair is a definite no-go. Since your locks have average thickness and definition, a wide-tooth comb will help you smooth out your wavy hair without messing up your natural hair pattern. Plus, you’ll reduce the chance of breakage because there’s more space between the strands!
- Add an extra dose of softness and hydration. To soften your hair and maintain your natural waves, you can use a leave-in treatment. This will soften your hair and protect it from damage from, for example, the hairdryer. A leave-in treatment can also be used to dry-straighten frizzy and unruly hair.
- Diffusing! One of the best care tips for 2C hair is to use a diffuser. Drying your hair normally should be your worst enemy! Diffusing helps define your waves or curls while also making your hair bouncy.
- Apply your hair products to damp hair instead of wet hair. You may have heard that people with curly hair should apply products to their hair when it is soaking wet… This is not the case for you. Your waves or curls will be more defined when your hair is just a tad drier.
- Use gel for your hair. By using the scrunch-in, scrunch-out technique, you can create a perfect look. So when your hair is completely dry, turn your head forward and then scrunch your hair. But be careful, don't use too much gel!
- Buy a microfiber towel! Don't use a regular towel on your head. It will make your hair frizzy faster. So invest in a microfiber towel or use 100% cotton t-shirts to remove excess water from your hair.
- Follow the Curly Girl Method. This is a three-step process designed for people with wavy, curly, and kinky hair. Find out which steps work best for you.
- Choose products without sulfates. Sulfates are often very drying and damaging to your hair. Curls are often already sensitive to drying out, so it is better to avoid those products.
- Ensure proper hydration. Curls are prone to drying out quickly and to prevent this, you need to hydrate your hair sufficiently. Use leave-in treatments and care products to nourish your locks.
- Consider your hair porosity. This will help you determine which products to use. In addition, hair type 3A, regardless of porosity, needs light products.
- Treat your hair gently. Again, your hair tends to dry out quickly. And dry hair is more prone to breakage. So it’s essential to be gentle with your locks. Especially when you step out of the shower. This is when your curls are at their most vulnerable.
- Follow the curly girl method! This is a three-step process designed for people with wavy, curly and kinky hair.
- Focus on conditioner! As for your washing schedule, we recommend only washing your hair once or twice a week. Your curls tend to dry out quickly, and washing them too often will only make them drier, frizzy, and damaged. So, shampoo once a week and condition three times a week! Conditioning more often than shampooing will give your curls the moisture they crave.

- Ensure proper hydration. Curls are prone to drying out quickly and to prevent this, you need to hydrate your hair sufficiently. Use leave-in treatments and care products to nourish your locks.
- Limit heat, color, and chemical treatments. It is best to minimize them. If you want to dry your hair, always use a diffuser. Remember, never forget to use a heat protectant.
- Don't overdo it. You may think you can handle a lot of product, but you could be wrong. The more you add to your curls, the heavier they will become!

- Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. This way you can protect the beautiful curls in your hair from breakage!
- Tie your hair in a loop right on top of your head and cover it with a silk scarf or hat to maintain the definition of your curls between washes. This is also known as the pineapple method!
- Hydrate. Use a leave-in that is designed to lock in moisture. Leave-ins can help maximize the silky texture your 4A hair already has. Better yet, they can also help protect your strands from dryness and tangles, providing much-needed hydration without weighing them down.
- Don't use too much conditioner too often. Although your hair type needs good care, it is important not to use too much conditioner. This is because it can break off faster. How exactly does this happen? Hair itself consists of fibers that are rich in protein. Because many conditioners also partly consist of protein-like ingredients, it is possible that your hair gets an overdose! Nourish your hair, but in moderation.
- Plop it up. Have you ever heard of the plop method? It’s a technique designed to maximize softness and moisture retention.
1. Squeeze out the water
When your hair is wet, use a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt to gently squeeze all the water out of your hair.
2. Add a product that is not too heavy
Apply a leave-in treatment all over your head, then add a few drops of hair serum to the ends for added shine and frizz control.
3. Plop the hair
Take a long sleeved t-shirt, lay it on your bed and place your hair in the middle with the collar on your forehead. Then pull the bottom of the shirt around your head and tie the sleeves at the back of your neck.
4. Let it dry
Let your hair dry completely with the t-shirt wrapped around it. Once dry, let loose to reveal super soft yet ultra defined curls. This method is great for absorbing product without making your curly locks crunchy.
- Choose products without sulfates. Sulfates are often very drying and damaging to your hair. Curls are often already sensitive to drying out, so it is better to avoid those products.
- Use the LOC Method. The LOC method (which stands for leave-in, oil, cream) is perfect for frizzy hair. By following this method, you can add a lot of hydration and moisture to your dry locks. This will also make your locks frizz-free and easier to style.
- Keep washing to a minimum. A great thing about your hair type is that you don’t really need to wash it that often. Stick to once every two weeks or even less. If you feel like you need to wash it more often, try it, but make sure to use gentle sulfate-free hair products.
- Let your curls air dry. Your hair type is very prone to breakage and dryness. Blow-drying will only make the problem worse. So instead of using a hairdryer, air-dry your locks. If for some reason you must use a dryer, use it with a diffuser. This will help protect your curls from unnecessary frizz.
- Focus on moisture. Your curls need a lot of hydration, more than you think. There is no such thing as too much product for you, because your curls will absorb it very quickly.
- Detangle with your fingers and do not brush your hair. Also do not use a wide-toothed comb. To minimize damage, you can detangle your locks with your fingers. Always detangle on wet hair, never on dry hair!
- Wrap a satin scarf around your head. Some people opt for protective styles like braids and twists to help their 4B hair grow and protect it from damage. And while those styles are super fun and fashionable, they’re not the only way to protect your natural hair texture from breakage, frizz, and other damaging elements. You can also just use a sleek satin scarf to prevent damage!
- Moisture, moisture, moisture. Type 4 hair can be very dry and needs a lot of moisture. Especially type 4C hair! Before you start using leave-in conditioners, moisturizers, and oils, it is important to know that water is the key to keeping your hair hydrated. Water is absorbed into the strands and these other products seal them in to keep the hair hydrated. This is why water-based moisturizers work best for our hair, but they are not enough. The LOC method works well to keep hair hydrated. This involves applying a water-based leave-in conditioner to soaking wet hair, followed by an oil to seal it in, and finally a butter-based moisturizer for added moisture.
- Don’t comb your hair when it’s dry. Although your hair is very strong, it is also very fragile. Your hair tangles easily because your strands are so tightly coiled and close together. If you comb through those tangles when your hair is dry, you break it unnecessarily. It is best to comb 4C hair while it is soaking wet, with a conditioner that has a lot of slip (so that the comb glides through easily). This makes it easier to comb your hair and you only lose the hair that naturally falls off our heads every day.
- Comb less. Speaking of combing 4C hair, it’s best not to comb too much. Combing your hair every day will lead to breakage. Create styles that last at least a week and don’t require too much manipulation like finger curls, finger shafts, twist outs, and perm rods.
- Wrap a satin scarf around your head. Some people opt for protective styles like braids and twists to help their 4C hair grow and protect it from damage. And while those styles are super fun and fashionable, they’re not the only way to protect your natural hair texture from breakage, frizz, and other damaging elements.
