1. Porosity

Low/medium porosity
In low/medium porosity hair, the hair cuticles lie flat/close together.
This makes it difficult for moisture to enter the hair and also difficult for it to leave the hair.
Naturally your hair grows in low porosity so we can say that this hair is not damaged but healthy. Medium porosity hair is between low and high porosity hair.
Have you not dyed your hair (within the last 2-4 weeks) or bleached it (within the last 6-8 weeks) recently? And do you not use a curling iron or flat iron? Then there is a good chance that your hair has low to medium porosity. This will certainly help you further when you want to discover your hair properties.
Features
Shine and Health: Your hair has a beautiful, natural shine and looks healthy.

Tips
Boost the Effectiveness with a Heatcap: Use a heatcap to open your hair cuticles a little. This helps your hair mask penetrate deeper into your hair and do its job better.
Apply to Wet Hair: Apply your products to wet hair instead of dry hair. This will keep your hair well hydrated and prevent it from drying out.
Use Protein with Care: Small amounts of protein are perfect for low to medium porosity hair. Be careful though: too much protein can make your hair stiff.
High porosity
With high porosity hair, moisture has no trouble penetrating your hair, but it also disappears quickly. This is because the hair cuticles are raised and open . High porosity hair is often damaged.
Have you recently dyed (within the last 2-4 weeks) or bleached (within the last 6-8 weeks) your hair? Or do you regularly use a curling iron or straightener? Then there is a good chance that your hair has a high porosity. This will certainly help you further when you want to discover your hair properties.
Features
Dry and brittle: Your hair may feel dry and be more prone to breakage and damage.
Tangles: It can get tangled quickly, which means you'll have to deal with tangles and knots more often.
Frizz-Prone: Your hair tends to frizz, especially in humid conditions.
Product guzzler: Your hair seems to “guzzle” a lot of product and often needs a good dose to be properly cared for.
Recent color or heat treatments: Have you recently colored or bleached your hair (within 2-4 weeks for color, 6-8 weeks for bleach) or do you use a lot of heat styling tools? Chances are your hair has high porosity.
*High porosity is also common in people with fine hair.
There is a thinner scale layer, which means that minor damage can become harmful more quickly.
Tips
Limit dyeing and use repair products: If you’ve recently dyed or bleached your hair, try to limit it. Condition your hair with products like Olaplex 3 or Curlsmith Bond Rehab Salve, and use a good high-protein mask to repair the damage.
Use nourishing products: Take good care of your hair with nourishing products, especially a mask that deeply hydrates and repairs your hair.
Add Protein: High porosity hair is often deficient in protein. Use high protein in your hair mask and leave-in products to strengthen and repair hair structure.
Hydrate with thicker creams: Thicker creams can hydrate and soften your hair better, keeping it more hydrated.
Use large protein: Large proteins are particularly suitable for hair with high porosity. They help to improve the hair structure and repair damage.

2. Its thickness
The last of the 3 most important hair characteristics is hair thickness. Your hair can be classified by thickness: fine, medium or coarse.
-
Feel test:
- Thin hair: Feels silky and barely there when you rub it between your fingers.
- Medium hair: Feels slightly textured, but still smooth.
- Thick hair: Feels rough and stiff, and you will notice a distinct presence between your fingers.
-
Visible check : Take a hair and look at it against the light
- Thin hair: The hair is difficult to see or appears very fine.
- Medium hair: The hair is visible, but not too thick.
- Thick hair: The hair is clearly visible and appears strong.
For fine hair, it is best to use lightweight products. Of course, this also works for medium and thick hair. Try out what works better, light products or something heavier.
3. Hair type
In terms of hair types, there are many different types of hair types! From straight hair to curly. Often hair from curl type 3 can have somewhat heavier products.
